Trims and Mechanical Features

The '19 Jetta GLI is available in three trim levels: S, 35th Anniversary, and Autobahn. All models are equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that satisfies sport-sedan fans with 228 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. Naturally, VW makes a six-speed manual transmission available, since this is the performance version of the Jetta, made just for the driving enthusiast. Those who don't care to shift gears themselves can choose the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Jetta GLI gets an EPA-rated 25 mpg city and 32 mpg highway, making it a fuel economy leader among sport sedans. The GLI comes standard with all-season tires, but summer performance tires are optional for no additional cost.

The base model S is standardly equipped with 18-inch twin 5-spoke machined alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic headlights, a black honeycomb grill with red accents, and chrome dual exhaust tips with a rear lower diffuser. Upgrading to the 35th Anniversary trim gets you smoke grey alloy wheels with a red accent, a blacked-out exterior, trim-specific badging, and a DCC adaptive chassis control suspension. At the top of the line, the Autobahn trim adds ventilated leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, and push-to-start ignition.

Safety and Technology

The 2019 Jetta GLI is equipped with state-of-the-art technology features that add both convenience and entertainment to the driving experience. Even the base trim comes standard with great stuff, such as a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth audio streaming, Volkswagen Car-Net App-Connect, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a six-speaker audio system. The 35th Anniversary trim does not add much in the way of technology, but the Autobahn trim upgrades to an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an incredible eight-speaker BeatsAudio system that produces top-of-the-line sound.

Although the Jetta GLI is known as a sports sedan, it is proven to be an exceptionally safe vehicle. It received a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for its outstanding results in government-issued frontal crash tests. All trims are set up with Volkswagen's advanced air bag system, including side curtain protection head airbags and a front and side thorax airbag supplemental restraint system, as well as an intelligently engineered protective frame. In addition, all Jetta GLI models come standard with advanced active safety features such as a rearview camera, blind-spot monitor, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, and an automatic post-collision braking system.
